Tomodachi (friendship) Family movie night.  Bring a friend and the family and come watch with us at the Dojo at 7:00pm!  This event is open to everyone and is FREE!!!!

Our Competition Team will be competing at the California Youth Karate Club & United Peace Officer's Against Crime Non-profit public benefit charitable organizations present 16th Annual CALIFORNIA YOUTH KARATE NATIONALS CHAMPIONSHIPS at LOS ANGELES CONVENTION CENTER 1201 South Figueora Street. Los Angeles CA. 90015. (8a.m.-5p.m.)

TESTING INFORMATION :

Even though you may not be testing in JUNE   on THURSDAY the 13th and on the list, this is the information for Future tests. Below you will find you have the tools to do the following:

Download the permission slip have it signed by your teacher at school and returned to dojo. (if you have already started School) unless its Summer and your teachers are on vacation:)

Download your test information so that you may study the written portion of your exam

Download our current complete curriculum so you know what techniques are required for each belt level.
(some Belt requirements will not be expected that time of a test but Sensei is tracking your progress throughout your training sessions and making note of when you do accomplish physical requirements)
 
Please arrive by 5:00 PM for your written exam, physical test will start at 5:30 PM.

KATA RULES AT A GLANCE

  • Scoring will be a range of 6.0 – 8.0 5 judges hi and low Scores will be discarded three remaining scores will be competitors total score. 3 judges no scores will be discarded total score will be competitors score.

  • First three competitors of each division will set base for each

  • Ties will broken by adding in the Low then high, a continued tie will be broken by a show of hands.

  • Traditional Martial arts uniform is Mandatory any color or design is permitted.

  • All katas will be judged on stances, focus, strength of technique, balance, bunkai and form. .

  • if Competitor Pre maturely stops their Kata they may start over but a 3 point penalty will be issued to final score.

  • Competitor may only restart Kata once per division.

  • Pre Registrations will compete in last half of Kata Division

WEAPONS RULES AT A GLANCE

  • All above Kata Rules apply including the following :

  • Any competitor in Black belt division who drops or breaks their weapon will result in a automatic disqualification. Competitors in Beginner Novice division may restart Kata with a 3 point penalty assed.

  • Competitor must have one hand on their weapon at all times during their performance. (Weapon can not purposefully leave the hands)

SYNCHRONIZED TEAM KATA RULES AT A GLANCE

  • Each team will consist of 3 members (Except for SNC5*** Division

  • Each team can be comprised of any age, gender, or rank.

  • Teams must compete in the age group of their oldest team member. SNC5*** “Team Family Kata” Each team must be comprised of at least 3 team members and no more than 6 and all team members must be immediately related.

  • A competitor may compete on two different teams if those teams are not in the same division.

  • Kata application or Bunkai demonstration is not required or Permitted.

  • Katas will be judged on presentation and Synchronization as well as stances, focus, strength of technique, balance, bunkai and form.

SELF DEFENSE RULES AT A GLANCE

  • Performance must be less than 3:00 Minutes in Length.

  • Performance will consist of one defender “the Competitor” and any

  • number of Attackers.

  • Each competitors should show between 3 – 5 Self Defense scenarios or Attacks. Attacks may consist of any combination of attacks with fist Foot Knife or Gun

KUMITE RULES AT A GLANCE

  • Following protective covering gear is mandatory: Head, Foot, Hand, and Mouth Guards, Groin Protection in Male divisions each competitor is responsible for their own equipment it will not be provided vendors will be on site for necessary equipment sales.

  • Only Foam dipped equipment or WKF style approved feet hand and head gear will be allowed to be used.

  • Each bout will be one 2 minute round . The winner is the most scored and penalty points at the end of 2 minutes (8 point spread in youth divisions )

  • Face contact is prohibited in all BEG/NOV and INT/ADV divisions. “Light face or control contact” is allowed in BB KUM32 – KUM45 divisions.

  • Excessive force, Heavy contact to the face, low kicks, and strikes to non scoring areas will result in penalty points awarded to opponent and Possible Disqualification.

    • 1st infraction = 1 Penalty point,

    • 2nd infraction = 2 penalty point to opponent,

    • 3rd infraction = disqualification (strikes causing opponent to bleed will result in instant disqualification)

  • ut of bounds is when one foot touches the edge of the ring. Ring size will be 20' x 20'

    • 1st infraction = warning

    • 2nd infraction =1 penalty point to opponent

    • 3rd infraction = 2 penalty point to opponent

    • Force outs are not penalized

  • Scoring areas head, face, chest, kidneys, abdomen, ribs and back. Throat and neck is permitted “No Contact point” No head contact when opponent is on ground.

  • “No contact Point” is a technique that is focused between 3” to 1” away from target area. Areas Throat, Spine, Face, Neck

  • Sweeps & Takedowns are permitted, sweeps must be below the Knee, Takedowns must be controlled. Both followed with a scoring technique.

  • Scoring:

    • All Punches & Kicks to body = 1point,

    • Kicks to head punches or Kicks to Back = 2 points.

    • Spin or Arial Kicks to head, takedown or sweeps followed with scoring technique on ground, any technique to body with opponent on ground = 3 points.

  • Any corner judge or center referee may stop fight when they observe a point scored.

  • A scored point is when three out of five judges or two out of three Judges verify a scored technique by show of hands / flags.

  • Coaching is allowed from coach in the coaches box. Only positive coaching will be allowed. Negative or derogatory coaching will result in a penalty point awarded to opponent.

  • Pre Registrations will be first to receive Byes in first rounds

  • Each fighter will be given at least a one minute break between fights.

  • Unsportsmanlike conduct from either coach or competitor will result in a disqualification from the tournament.
